The University of Texas at Dallas 鈥渋s excellent at preparing students for their future careers,鈥� especially in any of the many degree programs that are related to technology: 鈥淥ur school is very tech-savvy.鈥� Students appreciate that 鈥渢here鈥檚 always a research team, project, or development happening in [one of ] the departments,鈥� which helps to maintain a 鈥渄iverse learning culture.鈥� There鈥檚 also 鈥済reat guidance surrounding pre-professional careers,鈥� with professors praised as 鈥済reat and well-respected鈥� and able to 鈥済ive all required resources to students in order to excel.鈥� Academics are by and large 鈥渧ery rigorous鈥� and students should expect to 鈥渟pend many hours on their lectures or doing homework鈥� but are backed up by 鈥渧ery helpful鈥� assistance in finding tutors. The administration also takes 鈥済reat measures to make sure that students know that they are supported academically, emotionally, and mentally,鈥� and the campus itself provides 鈥渟o much space to study or do whatever you need to.鈥� Overall, students love attending a school that offers 鈥済reat academics and amazingly qualified professors and research opportunities.鈥�

UTD students, affectionately referred to as Comets, hail from over 130 countries around the globe and all over the United States. This is seen as an asset, as it unites all those 鈥渧ery studious鈥� and 鈥渁cademically focused鈥� students and helps them 鈥渃ome together in a great way when it comes to research and developing new tech.鈥� As one student puts it, there鈥檚 a 鈥渞ich cultural diversity and academics that foster[s] a love for innovation through empathy,鈥� though others note that some peers 鈥渢end to be career and academic focused over being caring about campus social life.鈥� Respondents suggest that there鈥檚 perhaps a 鈥渓imited amount of 鈥榡ock culture鈥� and traditional sports on campus,鈥� and that it鈥檚 not uncommon to find that a new friend 鈥減robably enjoys games and anime.鈥� Overall, these students are 鈥渕eme-heavy, but striving for good grades鈥� and 鈥測ou can really find or make your group here; you just have to seek it out.鈥�

When students aren鈥檛 hard at work, they鈥檝e got the choice of over 400 on-campus organizations, from 26 fraternities and sororities to 鈥渃areer-focused and community service clubs.鈥� Gaming is an emergent area of campus life, and esports enthusiasts are celebrated alongside other intercollegiate athletes. The Student Services Building features a gaming wall that鈥檚 popular with Xbox players on campus, and there鈥檚 an orchestra ensemble dedicated to playing anime scores. Students looking for fresh air enjoy the hammocks and disc golf course available through University Recreation. Other favorite activities include 鈥渟and volleyball, walks around campus with friends, [and] basketball.鈥� Because the UTD campus is connected to the greater Dallas area by rapid transit, students can also spend their free time following one of the seven professional local sports teams or enjoying the Dallas World Aquarium and Dallas Zoo at discounted prices. The University Career Center offers many services for students looking ahead to their future careers. Advising is available to help students focus on their interests and develop professional goals. Jobs and internships are listed on Handshake, and workshops are offered on topics such as r茅sum茅s, cover letters, and interview strategies. Upper-level students can take career planning classes for credit, and the UTD | EXP on-campus internship program offers opportunities for practical experience across many academic departments. In addition to career fairs and on-campus recruiting, UTD offers an externship and job-shadowing program, Explore the World of Work, that pairs students with professionals from various fields during spring break.
