The University of Wisconsin鈥擬adison鈥檚 鈥済reat reputation鈥� and 鈥渉uge variety of programs鈥� draw 鈥渆nthusiastic students鈥� who want to make a positive impact 鈥渢hrough research and service.鈥� This large research university has over 321 undergraduate majors and the wide range of options makes it easy to 鈥渇ind one that you will enjoy.鈥� As one student describes, 鈥淚鈥檓 only taking one major, but I am pursuing three certificates (minors) because there are so many interesting options on campus.鈥� The academics 鈥渃hallenge you to your full potential,鈥� and if you work hard, you鈥檒l 鈥渂e rewarded with amazing opportunities.鈥� The school puts a 鈥渉uge emphasis on gaining research experience鈥� and provides 鈥渨onderful facilities鈥� where research is conducted on topics 鈥渞anging from environmental to sociological to biomedical and everything in between.鈥� This also means that classes are taught by 鈥渓eading researchers in their fields鈥� who are overall 鈥済reat and passionate instructors.鈥� The majority are 鈥渟o enthusiastic鈥� and 鈥渧ery knowledgeable, interesting, and happy to help.鈥� Students recommend attending office hours 鈥渢o get the most out of their expertise鈥� and say some professors go above and beyond 鈥渢o give students extra study tips and extra office hours before the exam.鈥� From the one-on-one support to the engaging classes, it鈥檚 clear that professors here 鈥渃are about their students and their success.鈥� As one student says, 鈥淚 have learned more at this school than I ever knew was possible.鈥�

There is 鈥済reat school camaraderie鈥� thanks to a 鈥渨ell-rounded atmosphere鈥� at Wisconsin鈥� Madison where students bond over academics, sports, and having fun. Whether it鈥檚 studying, cheering on the football team, or joining an extracurricular, students here 鈥済o all out at everything we do.鈥� There are students from all 50 states as well as 123 countries, and about half of the student body hails from Wisconsin. It鈥檚 a 鈥渧ery lively鈥� campus where students enjoy getting involved on campus. People here are 鈥渧ery self-driven鈥� and UW鈥檚 鈥渓arge variety of clubs and organizations鈥� speaks to the students鈥� desire to pursue their interests 鈥渨ith everything they have.鈥� Overall, students are 鈥渁ble to find a good balance between work and fun.鈥� As one enrollee puts it, 鈥淲hen it is time to buckle down and study, we get the job done.鈥� While classmates are 鈥渨orking hard in classes,鈥� they鈥檙e equally 鈥渨illing to get involved with fun activities and meet new people.鈥� UW鈥檚 large size means there are 鈥渕any different individuals on campus, so there is really a fit for everyone.鈥� Overall, people are friendly and approachable. As one student explains, 鈥淧eople always talk to each other鈥� in classes and labs,鈥� and, 鈥淸I] always end the semester with a couple new friends.鈥�

UWN delivers a neat blend of city and nature, as well as a mix of outdoor activities, whether it鈥檚 warm or cold. The many trails and paths are 鈥渦sually busy during the weekends with joggers and bikers鈥� and there鈥檚 also windsurfing, paddle boarding, sailing or ice fishing, and cross-country skiing. Students are said to 鈥渁ttend Badgers games sun or snow,鈥� and though 鈥渨inters are brutal鈥� according to some, they also provide great opportunities for school spirit, like 鈥渁 massive campus-wide snowball fight.鈥� There are many indoor activities to be found as well, including 鈥渇ree movies, art workshops, concerts, open mic nights, guest lecture series, and performances from other student organizations.鈥� And 鈥渞ight off campus,鈥� there are 鈥渓ots of options for shopping and really amazing restaurants.鈥� Students say that it can be 鈥渁 bit of a party school,鈥� particularly on weekends and game days, though 鈥渋t鈥檚 easy to find other things to do to have fun.鈥� There are over 900 student organizations, and students say their peers are 鈥渆xtremely involved in diverse organizations and extracurriculars.鈥� Essentially, 鈥減eople can always find something to fit their idea of fun.鈥�

Career Services are organized through the university鈥檚 individual schools and colleges. However, the Career Exploration Center is available university-wide to help students focus their paths from the start through academic advising, workshops, and career assessment tools. This drilled-down approach to professional planning is a nice personalization in a large university. One student shares, 鈥淢y career path was significantly influenced by a number of professors due to their ability to teach, care for students' success both in and out of the classroom, and excitement for research.鈥� That last point is almost universally agreed upon as the biggest future-planning benefit to the school: With 鈥渁n abundance of research opportunities in all fields,鈥� even first-years 鈥渃an easily work in a lab, and if you鈥檙e there long enough, there is potential for publication.鈥� Overall, the school offers an array of 鈥済reat programs that make you an excellent candidate to potential employers.鈥�
