Wake Forest University embodies its motto Pro Humanitate (For Humanity) by emphasizing 鈥渙pportunities to serve, to become a leader, and to become part of initiatives that are larger than you.鈥� The Wake Forest experience is about becoming a well-rounded individual, and the school 鈥減ractices intentional interactions between professors and students, students with each other, and students and their larger community.鈥� With over fifty majors across 29 academic departments and 16 interdisciplinary programs, there are many opportunities for undergraduate research, as seen during the annual URECA Day (or Undergraduate Research Day) when students showcase their work. Students say there鈥檚 a 鈥渟trong vision and support鈥� from the administration and the alumni network, and per the school, 65% of 2023 undergraduates secured employment and 32% pursued higher education. That support isn鈥檛 just for graduates: 鈥淚 feel that I could ask any professor I鈥檝e had at Wake for a letter of recommendation, and they would know me personally enough to do so.鈥� Students 鈥渇eel comfortable鈥� talking to their professors, who are 鈥渁ll unique and bring something new to the classroom.鈥� They 鈥渄emand a lot of work,鈥� and classes 鈥渁re not easy and good grades are tough to come by.鈥� While instructors 鈥渉old us to the highest standards,鈥� they are also 鈥渆xtremely helpful鈥� as well as 鈥渆ncouraging and empathetic.鈥� It鈥檚 clear they 鈥渓ove teaching鈥� and they work to 鈥渆nsure that students are comfortable with voicing their opinions.鈥� As one student says, 鈥淥verall I鈥檝e had a fantastic academic experience with professors that have helped me discover my intellectual passions and have had a vested interest in my success.鈥�

The idea of Southern hospitality can be felt among this student body, where people tend to be friendly and accepting. Greek life makes up a fairly significant part of the student body鈥攋ust under 50% of students are part of a fraternity or sorority. Students emphasize that Wake Forest is a place where classmates 鈥渃an usually easily find groups of people who share their interests.鈥� The school is home to 鈥渟tudents from around the country and the world,鈥� and there are students from all 50 states and 39 countries in this 鈥渢ight-knit, supportive community.鈥� Students describe a welcoming environment where 鈥減eople generally don鈥檛 have any trouble fitting in,鈥� and classmates overall are 鈥渋ntelligent, ambitious, [and] highly involved.鈥�

The campus at Wake Forest is 鈥渁lways bustling with extracurricular activities,鈥� especially for active students with a taste for intramural sports. As a Division I school, there鈥檚 a 鈥渂igschool sports feel at a small school,鈥� and there鈥檚 an ongoing tradition of celebrating by 鈥渞olling the quad after a big athletic win.鈥� Greek life is a big part of student life, as are 鈥減arties, going to bars downtown, concerts, game nights, and chill hangouts at friends鈥� houses.鈥� The Student Union puts on over 200 programs each year, from big events like Homecoming to movie nights and trivia games. There are 鈥渓ots of great traditions at Wake Forest, like our annual Shag on the Mag dance in the spring鈥� and the Moravian Lovefeast, a candlelight service in December. Philanthropy is another 鈥淗UGE part of the WFU experience鈥� and there are many annual events like Wake 鈥楴 Shake, a dance marathon fundraiser, and Hit the Bricks, a relay race, which both support cancer research. Through it all, academics come first, but students acknowledge that those weekday hours in the library give way to a 鈥渧ibrant social scene鈥� and that they 鈥渁bsolutely let loose on weekends.鈥�

The Office of Personal & Career Development is known to be one of the best in the nation, and 鈥渇or a school this size, that鈥檚 incredible.鈥� The resources that are available there 鈥渁lmost guarantee you the best internships and jobs鈥� and whether it鈥檚 r茅sum茅 reviews, career counseling, intern searches, or job application help, the OPCD provides all students with unprecedented career support. There are numerous career fairs during the academic year including a STEM Slam for students in any major interested in talking to STEM employers. There are also optional Career Treks to Washington, New York and San Francisco that students can apply to attend. Wake Forest graduates who visited PayScale.com reported a median starting salary of $61,500, and 47 percent said they felt their job had a meaningful impact on the world.
