Founded in 1781, Washington & Jefferson College is a top-notch liberal arts college that offers an integrative education to 1,200 students, preparing students 鈥渇or life after graduation, whether that be continuing education or getting a job.鈥� There is 鈥渁 long and deep history that involves a lot of traditions,鈥� such as the college鈥檚 signature Magellan Project, which provides funding for students to pursue internships and research to open their eyes to the possibilities that lie beyond the classroom, or the MayTerm that 鈥渁llows students to take a class abroad with a professor.鈥� 鈥淔irst-Year Seminars also include trips off campus鈥� such as 鈥渁ttending a concert by the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra,鈥� and 鈥渕any professors are willing to hold class outside.鈥� There is 鈥渁 lot of potential for opportunities and employment networking,鈥� and 鈥渟mall class sizes and activities outside of the classroom [allow students] to create trusting and productive networks with the faculty at the college.鈥� Students say the student-to-faculty ratio 鈥渋s just right and most professors are eager to interact with their students on a one-on-one basis,鈥� creating an environment where they 鈥渨alk the line of friend and professor...in the best ways possible.鈥� It鈥檚 not unusual that 鈥渆ach [professor] knows your name and little details about you,鈥� or comes to 鈥渟upport [you] at sporting events,鈥� and that connection helps to enhance the discussion-based classes, in that there鈥檚 鈥渁 space where we can share our ideas without feeling insecure about it.鈥� Of course, that鈥檚 also due to professors being 鈥減assionate about what they teach,鈥� that each class 鈥渋s designed remarkably well and prepares each student for their respective majors and future careers,鈥� and that instructors 鈥渕ake sure that all the students understand the concepts and are thoroughly set for the exams.鈥�

Washington & Jefferson College is 鈥渁 positive environment that draws in students from all over the nation and world.鈥� The majority of the student body 鈥渋s white, but our school is trying to grow and focus on diversity,鈥� and students often challenge each other 鈥渢o have productive conversations鈥� about their differences. Everyone 鈥渒nows everyone because of how small our student body is,鈥� forming a 鈥渢ight-knit community of people with a lot of different interests, whether that be primarily in academics, arts, sports, or other extracurriculars.鈥� While everyone is motivated, there 鈥渋s a mixture of people who are more driven and people who are more laid-back.鈥�

Most students are constantly doing work for school or a job, but on weekends they 鈥渟pend time on and off campus, hanging with friends or doing events.鈥� Foodies will rejoice to know there 鈥渁re a high number of chain restaurants and local restaurants鈥� within a five minute drive, and for those who want to explore, Pittsburgh is only 30 minutes away. 鈥淟eadership on campus is really strong among student organizations鈥� and there鈥檚 鈥渁 weekly calendar of different events that are happening, ranging from concerts to escape rooms.鈥� Everyone 鈥渋s very involved on campus鈥� and there is 鈥渁 lot of school spirit [so] you鈥檒l always see people in the student section supporting their classmates at sports games.鈥� Students 鈥渇ill their free time with studying, athletic practices, and club meetings in the evening,鈥� and 鈥渧olunteering with professors for service activities like creek clean-ups.鈥�
