For more than 150 years, Wellesley College has given ambitious young women an education in the liberal arts with a global perspective by offering more than 50 majors and hundreds of funded internships around the world. The school鈥檚 financial support allows 鈥渟tudents to pursue internships and research [opportunities] that they would otherwise not take because they are unpaid.鈥� The school stresses leadership, service, and the idea of Wellesley students contributing to the world both now and after graduation. To enhance that education even further, enrollees are able to cross-register (or even dual degree) with other nearby colleges. Students are 鈥減ushed to explore different departments through the distribution requirements, providing them with a liberal arts education that shapes their personhood and education.鈥� And each department is 鈥減rovided with ample resources and handpicked professors鈥� who 鈥渢ruly value building relationships with their students.鈥� It鈥檚 not uncommon for faculty 鈥渢o take their class out to a restaurant, or even invite students to their home for a meal.鈥� The First-Year Experience at Wellesley further helps ease students into college, including mentor groups, a required writing class, and First-Year Seminars where new students 鈥渉ave the chance to dive deep into a specific topic without feeling the pressure of having [senior students] dominate the conversation.鈥� Academic opportunities extend beyond the classroom: the school鈥檚 reputation and alumnae network 鈥渙pen so many doors for you in the future,鈥� and students can 鈥渢ake part from the moment [they] accept the enrollment offer, and for as long afterwards as [they] wish.鈥� Wellesley works to create an environment 鈥渨here students can naturally progress through leadership positions on campus, whether that be through research, residential life, or student-run organizations.鈥� There are also 鈥渧ast opportunities [for] study abroad programs in so many locations.鈥�

Among this 鈥渟tudy-focused group of diverse people who hail from many countries and backgrounds,鈥� students 鈥渃an be who [they] want and explore different identities.鈥� Thanks to that aspect of the student body, everyone is 鈥渆xposed to countless cultures and viewpoints.鈥� These 鈥渋ntellectual, driven, [and] inclusive scholars鈥� are 鈥渦plifting and kind to each other both in class and outside of class,鈥� and part of the campus culture 鈥渋s the 鈥榃hy not?鈥� attitude that we all share.鈥� There鈥檚 also a 鈥渓arge feminist culture and LGBT population鈥� on campus and overall, students suggest that their peers are 鈥渘onjudgmental.鈥� Another student sums up the campus environment, saying Wellesley makes a huge effort 鈥渢o cultivate and facilitate a strong support network for all.鈥�

While the average Wellesley 鈥渨orkload is not for the faint of heart,鈥� students find balance 鈥渨ith extracurricular activities, social life, and self-care.鈥� One student explains, 鈥淓ven when classes are stressful, there is a beautiful campus that sparks happiness at random moments.鈥� That joy is apparent because almost everyone here is passionate about their extracurriculars, and 鈥渆ach organization at Wellesley is full of members who intensely love what they do.鈥� Outside of clubs or organizations, tons of students engage in 鈥渢he weekly Thursday pub night鈥� on campus, and Wellesley 鈥渦sually has some cultural shows or lectures going on in the afternoon鈥� which are well-attended. When they need a change of scenery, people often head to 鈥渘eighboring universities to have fun on weekends鈥� and 鈥渢here is a bus that provides easy transportation鈥� into Boston; many also 鈥渢ake advantage of [the] proximity to other east coast cities and states and take weekend trips.鈥� One student sums up the campus life at Wellesley: 鈥淕oing to a party is just as acceptable as staying in and watching a movie or playing board games,鈥� and the school is 鈥渧ery much a choose your own adventure鈥� environment.

The typical Wellesley woman is often described as 鈥渃areer oriented鈥� by her peers, and fortunately 鈥淲ellesley has an amazing alumni network and a career service center that helps students gain access to all sorts of job, internship, and community service opportunities.鈥� Wellesley Career Education offers ample resources, including career advising, help with finding jobs and internships, and tools for students seeking to continue their education in graduate school. True to its name, the center also offers guidance for women looking for service opportunities within existing organizations on and off-campus, and even offers funding for students looking to start their own initiatives. The support doesn鈥檛 end after students graduate: 鈥淲ellesley鈥檚 alumnae network is one of the strongest I found in my college research, and Wellesley鈥檚 career placement services will assist alumnae no matter how much time has passed since they graduated.鈥�
