Set amidst the spectacular peaks of the Wasatch Mountains, Westminster University is a quaint liberal arts college in a small neighborhood of Salt Lake City. Undergrads praise 鈥渁 very rigorous academic load鈥� and 鈥渁 community that doesn鈥檛 center around academic competition, but academic empowerment.鈥� This collaborative culture includes faculty that is 鈥渁ttentive and understanding.鈥� One undergrad says, 鈥淧rofessors are very accessible,... [and] if office hours don鈥檛 work for you, they will make other times to meet.鈥� Students generally agree that professors are 鈥渆xperts in their fields [and] extremely knowledgeable.鈥� There are complaints, however, about adjunct professors who 鈥渟eem to be less committed.鈥� The small campus and class sizes allow students 鈥渢o communicate one-on-one with professors [and give students] the opportunity to get to know...classmates better.鈥� Despite the size of Westminster, 鈥渞esources are abundant at the college,鈥� and students have access to hands-on research opportunities, internships, study abroad programs, and conferences. Frequently mentioned majors include 鈥渁 great nursing program,鈥� biology, and theater.

The culture is welcoming and socially relaxed at Westminster University. 鈥淭here is a general mix of artistic and intellectual students who are driven by learning.鈥� Additionally, there is also an awareness of social issues, and 鈥渋t鈥檚 easy to strike up a conversation about gender bias or cultural inequality because our students are well educated and always up for challenging their thought process to make positive change happen,鈥� one undergrad reports. That said, some take issue with the common 鈥渓iberal ideology.鈥� Moreover, while students may have a 鈥渄iversity of interests,鈥� some find that 鈥渢here is not much diversity in terms of race, gender, sexual orientation, and ability.鈥� The student body is predominantly 鈥渨hite and at least upper middle class.鈥� But while it might seem like a fairly uniform campus, 鈥渆veryone you meet is open to every walk of life [and] accepting of differences.鈥�

Outdoor activities are a big draw to students at Westminster. And with six ski resorts within a half-hour drive, 鈥渁 lot of people look forward to snowboarding and skiing.鈥� In fact, one student says that 鈥淲estminster has a core of people who like to ski and that is often all they do鈥濃�擥riffins love their slopes! Others clarify that 鈥渢here is more [to] Westminster than just skiing and snowboarding.鈥� Sure, 鈥渨inter sports are popular here, but most of us are more concerned with our academics than the ski hill.鈥� A happy medium would be the on-campus clubs available to students, which 鈥渁lways try to provide activities or events.鈥� Something students are unanimous on is the food options, from on-campus student centers that 鈥渁re great stops for a quick meal or coffee to recharge鈥� to the restaurants in Salt Lake City, which has the added benefit of being 鈥渁 very cool city.鈥�
