William & Mary is an institution teeming with resources and opportunity. Undergrads here benefit from a curriculum that allows students to 鈥渟tep outside of my major and explore different fields, which broadens my perspective.鈥� Students note that this 鈥渢ruly well-rounded education鈥� applies to courses from philosophy to art to business: there鈥檚 a 鈥渨ide variety of classes that encourage them to think critically about the world.鈥� And while the 鈥渁cademic rigor of the school is challenging鈥�it cannot be overemphasized how well it prepares students for continuing education at medical school, graduate school, etc.鈥� Of course, it also helps that the majority of professors 鈥渁re deeply passionate about their fields and actively seek to work with undergraduates and support them throughout their college career.鈥� They 鈥減ush you to do your best, while also being very understanding about any outside factors that might be happening in your life.鈥� A number also take a creative approach to teaching. For example, one student shares, 鈥淚n my Egyptology class, we went to the VMFA to do a competition: whichever team could translate the hieroglyphs on various artifacts first would win a prize.鈥� Outside the classroom, 鈥渙pportunities for meaningful undergraduate research abound, and faculty are eager to get students involved throughout every step of the research journey.鈥� As another undergrad chimes in, 鈥淭hey truly are mentors academically, professionally, and in life.鈥� Ultimately, students appreciate W&M鈥檚 鈥渆mphasis on being engaged and curious鈥�and the [incredible] resources and faculty available.鈥�

William & Mary 鈥渉as a rep for being community-oriented,鈥� and undergrads say it鈥檚 clear 鈥渢hat many people choose W&M because that is something they prioritize in a college.鈥� Indeed, 鈥渋t鈥檚 a place where you can feel welcome, find meaningful friendships, and share laughter with people who genuinely care.鈥� Students say their classmates are 鈥渃urious and love learning but also have a healthy perspective鈥�understanding that there is more to life than the classroom.鈥� Moreover, 鈥渆veryone here is interested in very niche topics, but are also interested in getting to know what their peers are interested in,鈥� a trait that students feel 鈥渕akes us a little nerdy but lovable.鈥� Students also value the fact that people are 鈥渋nternally competitive but not with one another鈥攎ost people are hard on themselves but encouraging and collaborative with their peers.鈥� Finally, 鈥渢here is such a diverse student body and so many different student organizations at this school that [it] is difficult for someone to feel left out at this college.鈥� As one undergrad proclaims, 鈥淓verywhere you go, you can find a friendly face, and developing interpersonal relationships is easy when everyone is a friend of a friend.鈥�

Students might be a bit hyperbolic in exclaiming, 鈥淭here are a billion and one things to do on campus,鈥� but there certainly seems to be a lot to enjoy at William & Mary. They can participate in everything from 鈥渢he radio club (WCWM) and the outdoor recreation program (Tribe Adventure Program)鈥� to 鈥渄ance, multicultural orgs, advocacy groups, veggie society, [and even a] fermentation club.鈥� Additionally, 鈥渁 cappella is another unusually popular activity for W&M students, with many teams performing regularly.鈥� There鈥檚 also 鈥渁 student org (AMP) that puts on a lot of fun events [including] English country dancing for Jane Austen鈥檚 birthday, carnivals, [and] scare houses.鈥� When it comes to partying, some students insist the 鈥渟cene isn鈥檛 big, but you can find them if you look hard enough.鈥� Others report that there are 鈥渁 considerable amount of people who participate in Greek Life and go to larger parties/event[s] pretty frequently.鈥� Off campus, 鈥減eople spend lots of time in Colonial Williamsburg, [at] farmer鈥檚 markets, art festivals, coffee shops, etc.鈥� All in all, W&M 鈥渉as a wide variety of intellectual, creative, and personal opportunities for each and every student鈥� to pursue.

William & Mary students have little trouble on the job market. Undergrads readily assert that this is because the 鈥渟chool has a powerful reputation that allows employers and graduate schools to feel comfortable with William & Mary student鈥檚 ability to perform in a real job situation.鈥� 鈥淲illiam & Mary does a great job networking their students with alumni,鈥� plus, undergrads can turn to the fantastic Cohen Career Center for insight and support. Students have access to top notch services including resume review and mock interviews. Undergrads can also participate in unique programs like 鈥淓xecutive Partners鈥� wherein executives from a range of industries meet with students to answer their career questions.
