The Louis D. Brandeis School of Law at the University of Louisville has a 鈥渄own-to-earth atmosphere,鈥� and students find the program and overall cost of living affordable. 鈥淧rofessors are accessible and happy to interact with students,鈥� and the 鈥渙pen door鈥� policy of the faculty and staff is among the school鈥檚 greatest strengths. Students note that the program has 鈥渟ome fantastic professors鈥� who 鈥渨ill clearly go through hell and back for their students,鈥� but some note that instructors can be 鈥渉it or miss.鈥� Students would like to see 鈥渕ore class selections and better time slots鈥� but appreciated the more practical nature of the curriculum, noting that professors here 鈥渁re not lost in academic rigor. They seemed more concerned with us practicing than publishing.鈥� Students also praised the school鈥檚 resources, including the library, where 鈥渓aw librarians are very helpful and available to answer any questions.鈥�
The school has 鈥済reat connections with the Louisville and Kentucky legal communities and finding mentors/internship opportunities is never a problem.鈥� For many students, it鈥檚 the professors who stand out when it comes to career development. Many professors here connect students to opportunities and are readily available to 鈥渨rite recommendations or act as a reference for students who are seeking jobs and internships.鈥� Students appreciate the school鈥檚 鈥渆ncouragement of practical experience before graduation.鈥� As part of the degree requirements to graduate, students are required to complete 30 hours of legal public service. To help students meet this requirement, the school offers first-year students the opportunity to return to campus one or two weeks before the spring semester and be paired with an employer to complete their public service. This program is optional, but the school notes that the majority of first-year students participate.

There is healthy competition among peers with activities such as moot court and the law review, but the environment here is not 鈥渟uper competitive,鈥� which is 鈥渧ery helpful for students' mental health.鈥� The overall vibe on campus is left leaning, with students noting that 鈥淢ost are fairly liberal, but [there are] some conservatives.鈥� Students here are 鈥渞eally nice to each other鈥� and can be found 鈥渉elping and supporting each other.鈥� One 1L student remarks that, in general, 鈥減eople are open and excited about getting to know one another.鈥� To facilitate networking among students, alumni, and potential employers the school offers job fairs and there are frequent school sponsored and student org sponsored events on campus, such as panels and speaker series.
